This has been one hectic week. Poor Charlie finally got circumcised, which was HORRIBLE! There's a reason why they do that in the hospital. Get it over with early. Unfortunately, he was 3 weeks old, and it was rough. This was the one thing I was terrified about with having a boy. The nice doctor came in and explained everything to me (which I don't know if that was a good idea), and then took him with her. They scheduled this over their usual lunch hour, so we were the only people in the office. So of course when I hear a baby screaming down the hall, I know it's him. All I could do is just cry and cry. I HATE having my babies hurt. I know this is in his best interest, and it will prevent a lot of negative things in the future. I just hated him being in pain. It only took about 15 minutes and the nurse brought him back in. Now was the hard part. We had to sit and wait about 45 minutes, and wait for them to come back in to check his diaper. Thank goodness he's a good eater. I was able to nurse him (almost the entire time) and it soothed him. Needless to say, that was pretty much the worst day of his life :-(
So, this was also my first full week of being home by myself with the kiddos. It went okay. I'm having a hard time with Haley. She's doing great, but she's used to my 100% attention on her. Add in the 115 degree heat (leaving us inside), and she got a little stir crazy. There's nothing I want more in the world than for my kids to feel my love. And I'm terrified I'm not giving Haley enough right now. She's so smart, and I would hate for her to revert due to my lack of stimulation. Add in my need to be Super Mom, and it was kind of a rough week.
Since I stay home, I feel like I need to do everything. Steve works so hard, and he doesn't need to worry about laundry, dishes, or paying bills when he gets home. So, I've been pushing myself to get everything done. If I'm not feeding kids, changing diapers, or keeping Haley entertained...I'm cleaning. It's exhausting. I dont want to stop, because I don't want the clutter to become overwhelming. Unfortunatley, this is causing me to freak out. I haven't slept more than 5 hours/night, sat for more than 30 minutes, or ate breakfast & lunch in 3 weeks. I guess the weight loss is a perk right now. lol.
I just really need to work out a routine. Change is really hard for me, and that was the best part about Haley. She was SOOO predictable, and this baby isn't. Now, don't get me wrong...for a 3 week old baby, he's GREAT! I know exactly when he's going to wake up at night, and I can tell why he's crying each time. But, I can't wait to get him on a nap/lunch/play schedule.
I LOVE my kids and my family. Every day I remind myself how extremely lucky I am to have such beautiful, smart, and healthy children. I just need to remember that it's not about the destination...it's the drive. I need to enjoy every minute of each of them, because before I know it...they'll be grown. :-(

We Survived the First Two Weeks!
Well...the last two weeks have flown by. To be honest, the last 9 months flew by. I still can't believe I have TWO kids...and that they're 15 months apart! I'm kind of jumping on the bandwagon, and I'm trying to start a blog (for the 3rd time). I keep forgetting my login/password for the previous ones I have started. So...this blog is going to start from May 25, 2011.
There was 6 months between Haley's pregnancy and Charlie's...but to be honest, it felt like I was pregnant for 2 years straight. So by the time I was 38 1/2 weeks, I was begging Steve to put me into labor. I had preterm labor beginning at 28 weeks and was hoping that Charlie would be ready at 35 weeks (when I stopped taking my Trebutilane). That didn't happen, so instead I took matters into my own hands. I finally convinced Steve to use "any means necessary" to put me into labor, but we had to wait until he had accrued enough hours at work. He gets paid based on flat rate, and didn't have any vacation yet. Once he reached enough hours (May 25, 2011), we were good to go. We went to dinner as a "Last Supper", then came home to make things happen. We started with the most logical strategy. (Sorry if this is TMI) I sat there with my feet in the air (similar to when you're trying to get pregnant), and nothing happened. So....I came downstairs and mixed my coctail. I mixed 2 oz. of caster oil with a glass of orange juice. I had researched this method, and made sure I had the ratio down right. This stuff was gross. Not terrible, but pretty bad. It almost reminded me of drinking a raw egg. It was so slimey & oily. Blah!!!! But, I'm a champ, plugged my nose, and chugged the drink. From my research I knew that it usually takes around 24 hours to work. So, I took a shower and went to bed.
At 1:00 a.m (on the dot), I woke up with my first contraction. I had been having inconsistent contractions for about 9 weeks, so didn't think anything of it. By 1:45, I had been having contractions every 3 minutes. I was 99% sure it was time. I quietly made my way to the bathroom to pack my toiletries. I still had not packed my bag...I'm an idiot. lol. Steve must have heard me because he came into the bathroom & asked if I was seriously shaving my legs at 2 a.m. ( I must have had my razor in my hands or something) We finished packing our bags, woke Haley up :-( and headed to the hospital. We dropped Haley off at Joie's, and them I started having second thoughts. I wasn't sure if I was really ready, but there was no turning back.
We got to the hospital around 3:30. I had a not-so-nice nurse with very large hands. She called the doctor on call, and they decided to stop by labor with more Trebutilane and fluids. What the f?!?!?! My doctor had told me that once I hit 35 weeks, if I had consistent contractions, he would be delivered. So, I politely asked if I could decline the medicine. She said yes, but that I was probably just dehydrated & fluids would stop it anyways. She couldn't call my doctor until 5 a.m. and their O.R. was "really busy", so it wouldn't be until after 2 p.m. before they could get me in for my c-section. I said, I didn't mind. So, they hooked me up to fluids and sure enough, my contractions didn't stop. She told me they slowed "way down", but I looked at my monitor and I was contracting 3-4 times every 10 minutes. 5:00 finally arrived, and she called my doctor. Sure enough, he said to get me ready!!!! Oh, and surprisingly, they could "squeeze" me in at 6:30 a.m. Everything started going really fast from then on. They immediately brought me antibiotics, Steve his scrubs, and I was ready to go.
The surgery went super fast and easy. They started my spinal tap at 6:30, Charlie was here at 6:47, and I was being wheeled out of the O.R. at 7:10. I got SUPER sick after the surgery. I have a major problem with any kind of anesthesia, so I was expecting it. But, this was really bad. I was vomitting until about 4:30. It was so bad when I was in recovery, that I couldn't even keep my eyes open. I think I only help him for about 2 minutes in the first 5 hours of his life. I was devestated when the nurses had to give him 1/2 oz. of formula because he was so hungry. Luckily, once they gave me a shot in my booty, I was good to go. I was able to nurse him right away & he's been a great eater since then!
So, now we're home and I love it. I really do have some great kids. He is very different from Haley. He's a lot more laid back than her, but eats a LOT more than she ever did. When we left the hospital he had dropped his weight from 8 lbs 4 oz to 7 lbs 10 oz. Now, 2 weeks later, he weighs 9 lbs 2 oz. I've always wanted a chunky baby & I think I got one! Haley is doing amazing with him & think her young age is actually working to my advantage. She's never been the jealous type, and she's just so excited by babies that she loves him. She gives him about 50 kisses a day, and especially loves kissing his toes. She even takes her foot & puts it up to his...then laughs.
I am so incredibly blessed to have 2 healthy, beautiful babies. And to have such an amazing & supportive husband just makes things 100 times better. I honeslty don't even remember what life was like before I became a Goodwillie. :-)
